Links

This is not intended to be a page of endless links most of which will never get viewed, I have selected a small number of suppliers who I have used and been very happy with, also a number of homepages of inspiring or of unique quality. The list will grow very slowly as I discover new sites worthy of mention.

Homepages

http://users.bigpond.net.au/robsstuff/ This is the homepage of a very talented Australian modeller (he also seems to be a good bloke all round), of particular note are his homemade figures, but check out the electronics too, it's all just a shame he's squandering his tallents on some 1950's GB layout (sorry Rob, I can only say what I feel). Well worth a visit, will inspire you to be practical and to think twice about making stuff yourself, rather than buying.

http://www.altezeitgruppe.com/ This is my modelling inspiration, a simple style with the aim of achieving realism, (also a nice bloke who has provided me with most of my French stock to date). Although I hope I'm developing my own style, you'll probably notice some influences in my layouts. Take time to visit this site, there are some gems to be found, also it changes with time so keep checking back..

http://www.osterthun.com/ This is a layout not to be missed whatever your interests, it's a big site and well worth setting aside some time to view it, I won't spoil your fun by trying to describe it, only needs saying that it is one of the finest layouts you'll ever see.

Suppliers

http://www.ontracks.co.uk I buy almost all my stuff from this company, I like their style and up to now haven't let me down, not much more to say.

http://www.kleinserien.de/e/index.htm For those little details (they seem to sell almost everything) that make all the difference, although a German company they have an English web page, take credit cards and have excellent communications (again all in English even if you try to use your sehr schrecklich German).

http://www.djhengineering.co.uk/ DGH Engineering, for white metal/brass loco kits, I've bought one of their kits, quality is outstanding, but very challenging to build, not for beginners (I was a beginner)...

Forum
Modelling on my own (I'm not interested in clubs) is often difficult, especially when you need that snippet of crucial information. I've found the various forums available invaluble, I contribute to a few and just browse others, in general I can get an answer to a question within a few hours.

As a general tip, I've found it best to observe for a bit, learn the house style and then join in if you feel the urge.

http://www.newrailwaymodellers.co.uk/Forums/index.php Straight forward site aimed at the beginner, some useful tips to be had, seem a friendly crowd, spend a lot of time discussing attics and the hateful game.

http://germanrail.8.forumer.com/ Specialist site dedicated to German railways, very nice crowd, but not one for the faint hearted! Run by Tim Hale who's homepage I mention above.

http://www.worldrailfans.info Great site for general railway/model railway info, tread caerful though they are a serious lot, know their stuff and don't take prisoners!

http://www.lrpresse.fr/trains/viewforum.php?f=2 French discussion site, never posted, but fun to read (they have a sense of humour), run by a French railway magazine publishing house.

http://www.drehscheibe-online.de/ German language site, never posted, only browsed, has provided some real gems of info though.
